Does anyone know where I could find out the guidlines for doing an FHA inspection. I know it is basically the same as a standard inspection but I know there are some specific things that the FHA looks at.

Thank you for the contact. I called them and they forwarded me to the division in Denver that handles that kind of stuff. The guy said there was so much to know that there wasn't really any good source for a checklist. He is mailing me three books put out by HUD but said it is a lot of info and only a little of it would be useful. Anyone know of a checklist or anything of the sort for FHA inspections?

Hi Victor,

I have a great source for you, but you'll need to ensure that:

a. You've got plenty of paper in your printer.

b. Your printer has a pretty good sized buffer so you're not printing for 3 hours.

c. You have a rock-solid internet connection with decent speed.

Then go to HUDuser.org or to pathnet.org and find the HUD Residential Rehabilitation Inspection Guide put together by the National Institute of Building Sciences and print that sucker off.

Great document. You'll love it.

Mike:

That really is a good book for reference and general knowledge.

Here's the URL http://www.huduser.org/publications/destech/inspection.html

Does anyone know if the HUD Residential Rehabilitation Inspection Guide is good for use in California. We're a kind of strange animal here, so I wasn't sure. Any input or suggestions would be appreciated.

Tony,
On page 2, More Info, of the Hud rehab guide you will find a link to earthquake construction. Bobby's link will get you there.

I'm a FHA Inspector in Alaska. I'd like to talk to other FHA & Va inspectors about various issues in and around FHA/VA new construction Compliance inspections, the new test and other questions. I've never found a forum for this type discussion. Any old hands out there?

Victor. Ask an appraiser for a copy of the required items they are responsible for. Thats the list you want

It's a check off list from FHA, smoke detectors, trim rot, exterior paint/ interior paint, plumbing leaks, inoperable windows, FRT etc.

Victor,

Some of the TX schools have classes for HUD & VHA. They can be used for CE.
ITA has a class description on their TX site, but no classes schedule.
Here's the link: http://www.home-inspect.com/campuses/txice.html

All times are PT (US Pacific Time)
